Charger Amber Lopez #20 battles for control of the ball

The Chargers' women's soccer team endured wet weather to secure a 1-2 victory over the Hornets of Fullerton on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Cypress College.

The rain began to fall moments before the start of the game. The players from both teams played as if it was a warm sunny day.

The Chargers got on the board early scoring their first goal in the sixth minute. Charger freshman ChristiAna Lang #16 sent the ball from midfield deep into the box. Charger sophomore Casey Kiehl #3 touched the bouncing ball before a Hornet defender headed the ball out of the box sending it to the left side of the goal. Charger sophomore Amber Lopez #20 spun around and lifted the ball into the top of the net with her left foot. The score remained 0-1 for the rest of the first half.

Early in the second half, Charger freshman Angie Silva #18 tapped by ball past the Hornet defense. Charger freshman Vanessa Corona #22 out-ran the defense and drove the ball toward the Hornet goal. After the goalkeeper came out, Corona sent a shot past the goalkeeper for the Chargers second goal.

The Hornets cut the Charger lead in half when Hornet sophomore Emily Smith #2 sent a long pass in the box and Hornet freshman Lydia Ravelo #17 headed the ball past the Charger goalkeeper in the 83 minute.

Despite a few more attacks from the Hornets, the Chargers held on to win 1-2. The conference win snapped the Chargers two game losing streak.
