Charger freshman Giajaida Vargas #21 saves the ball

The Chargers played the Gauchos of Saddleback, successfully defending  their home court and winning another conference match improving their season record to 9-2 on Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the Cypress College gym.

The Chargers dominated the first two sets of the match winning the first set 12-25 and the second set 18-25. The Gauchos often served the ball short but the Chargers were able to adjust to that strategy.

The third set was a different story. The Gauchos jumped out to a 9-3 lead before the Chargers battled back to tie the set at 12. The Chargers continued their dominate play to capture the lead and move the score to 13-18. The Gauchos were not going to fade away and re-tied the set at 21. The score was repeatedly tied 9 times from 21 to 29. The Chargers defended 3 set points before completing the sweep by winning the third set 29-31.

After the match Charger freshman Rose Greco #2 was asked about the strategy of the Gauchos to serve the ball short. Greco replied, "We got it after the first couple of times." Charger freshman Kyla Pace #22 had a momentum changing kill at the end of the third set. Pace shared, "I just told our setter to run me a one and she ran it and I got a kill. So, that was really good. I think that motivated us." Charger sophomore Katie Saavedra was asked about serving match point. Saavedra said, "It felt good. I mean I'm not the best server on this team so it felt good."

The Chargers' women's volleyball team is having a very successful season. Please support them by coming to their games and cheer to help them continue their success.
