Cypress College Public Safety posted a timely warning yesterday, Nov. 22, after a failed robbery attempt occurred involving a female student.
At around 5:30 in the afternoon, the female student was approached while in the Gateway Plaza area, according to the press release. The student said that the suspect attempted to force her to go to the ATM to withdraw money. The suspect, described by the victim as a male around 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9 in height, was wearing jeans and a black sweatshirt with a hood.
The suspect fled after learning that the victim did not have an ATM card and fled without being apprehended. The victim immediately filed a report with Campus Safety.
With daylight hours getting shorter, the Campus Safety Office advises students to walk in group and utilize escorts provided by Campus Safety. Emergency posts can also be found around campus and students should familiarize themselves as to where they are located. Also, students are reminded to report any suspicious activity to Campus Safety or the Cypress Police.
The Timely Warning was sent out to all staff and to all students via email and MyGateway.
Any additional information about the robbery can contact the Cypress Police Department at (714) 229-6600.
