Starting September, the senior day committee plans ahead for the big event. "It's an event to showcase our campus to provide information about programs and services that Cypress offers to students" says "Coach", Student Activities Advisor Paul Bottiaux.
Jose Gonzalez, president of AS, says the campus will be packed. "This is by far the biggest event that we have at Cypress College." Tables will be set up outside to give information about the different programs and clubs that Cypress has to offer.
AGS is just one of the many clubs that will be there. Alex Thompson, who is president, was working on a banner for senior day with his club. He says they will be there to join in on the big day. Thompson says that they will be reaching out to seniors who are transferring to community colleges to try and get them involved in their club. "It's a good club and they should get involved."
Gonzalez says there will be information about transferring. There are sessions where students can get more information on transferring to Cypress College, and there will be tons of workshops. Games, pizza, and soda will be provided as well.
Gonzalez says about 10 to 12 schools are expected to show up this year according to last year's head count. That is about 900 students. Coach says it is important for expecting high school seniors to come to Senior Day. "It offers them the opportunity to see what Cypress has to offer." Cypress makes sure that each local high school senior gets a Senior Day flyer. "It's a recruiting method from the school" says Coach.
