Dr. Sheridan Ball says that he has wanted to be a music director since he was in high school.

He officially became a director in 1971 when he conducted his first chorale. Ball has been with Cypress College since 1981 and is the director of the music department.

He said, "I have a main love for music. I just love conducting."

Ball's latest endeavor is the the upcoming performance, "Serenade to Spring."

He said he chose the music for this production with an uplifting beat because he felt it would make people feel good.

He also picked songs that were personal favorites that he knew to be winners throughout the years.

As for music, Ball said there is nothing that he dislikes about what he does, but what can be really demanding is that there are not enough hours in a day.

He teaches and conducts at night.

Also, some pieces can be complicated and it gets hard when he has to conduct more than one piece at a time.

He says it is so dramatic, exciting and romantic - almost "operatic."

"Serenade to Spring" will be performed by the Cypress Masterworks Chorale at 4 p.m. on March 30 in the Cypress College Main Campus Theater.

General admission tickets are $12. Tickets for students and seniors 55 years and older are $8. Tickets for groups of 10 and over are $6.
