Cypress College students choose their instructors by peer recommendation, need, and preference at time of registration.

Some students use RateMyProfessors.com, where students go and write what they think about their instructors.

"I can learn what I need to know but also have the teacher teach it right. It's hard for me to learn when the teacher uses words I don't know," said third semester student Jennifer Cosby. "They need to be organized, too. I like to be organized, and I can't when the teacher isn't."

Other students don't put much time in choosing their instructors.

"It wasn't like I heard anything about the teacher, you know? It was just a random pick," said student Amy Fowler.

A student's preference for a convenient time to attend class impacts their decision making also.

"I looked at the classes that I needed and the time I wanted to go, and I just picked the professors that were teaching in the mornings," said second semester student Monique Salcido. "I didn't really ask about how the teachers were."

Students share ideas with each other when deciding why to choose certain instructors.
