The Chargers baseball team hosted the Roadrunners of the College of the Desert on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Cypress College.

The Runners manufactured a run in the first inning. After a walk, wild throw, stolen base, and a sacrifice fly the Runners took a 1-0 lead.

Charger sophomore DC Legg #7 hit a three-run homerun over the left field wall. The home team captured a 3-1 lead after four innings. "Ray Hanson did a wonderful job going for his pitch / strike and getting groundballs. Gabe Garcia and T. Garrett finished it out for us." Legg said. "I think our pitching did a wonderful job today and our hitters did what they needed to do."

Charger sophomores Stephan Kungl #5 and Johnathan Morales #15 were on-base when Legg hit the homerun. Morales plans to attend Virginia Tech to become a civil engineer. "Our pitchers did a pretty good job of throwing first pitch strikes," Morales said.

Charger sophomore Tanner Perkins #11 hit a double in the bottom of the seventh. Perkins scored an insurance run when Charger sophomore Jordan Foreman #10 laid down a bunt toward first base. "We were having a little trouble hitting" Perkins said. "But as soon as our bats got going we took the lead."

The Chargers won the season opener 4-1.
